The Session:
Last session, some bad things happened, probably. I dunno, it's been a couple of months. It ended with us fleeing Mount Illefarn, along with two Dwarf NPCs, and setting up camp nearby.
Khemed and Azul met with some of Avrik's contacts, who mapped out more of the dungeon for us. While they were gone, Nikolice searched for some of our former allies, but only found signs of combat instead. Navine received word that there was dragon attack in the area. This somehow led to us planning how to lure a dragon into Mount Illefarn.
Postponing that plan, we reentered the dungeon so we could attempt to disrupt the portal. We tiptoed back up to level three, where Nikolice and Navine scouted ahead. They opened a door and heard some chanting. Around another corner, an Earth Elemental walked by, much more quietly than you would expect from such a large creature. Our scouts looked around a few more rooms, mostly finding abandoned areas and tombs.
One sarcophagus had a false bottom, leading to a secret passage. Nikolice found another tomb at the end of the passage, but it had already been looted. Nikolice and Navine made to rejoin the party, reaching us just as the Earth Elemental reappeared.
The rock monster attacked, we fought it for a few rounds, and we turned that piece of schist into rubble. Our fight drew the attention of some zombies, who showed up just in time to take the Elemental's place in combat. Two Red Wizard Wights also came lurking down the hall. We held our actions until we could see the wights of their eyes, then blasted 'em.
A Red Wizard - who we could have sworn we killed in an earlier session - joined the battle invisibly, only to run off when Vanya inadvertently hit him with a Shatter spell. Khemed took out several enemies with a Fireball spell. The Red Wizard took out one of his own Wights while hitting three of us, and continued to flee. Navine gave chase, and dropped the Red Wizard with an arrow.
As we turned the corner, two Will-O'-Wisps showed up, and two more Wights came into view. Khemed and Nikolice ended up fighting the Wights, with the Wisps preventing the rest of the party from reaching them to help. Azul killed both Wisps, opening up the corridor so we could save the day. Behind us, one of our NPC allies transformed into the dragon we'd heard about earlier - "Chuth Elf-Taker". We have two elves in the party (one full elf and two half-elves, do the math), so we have good reason to fear a dragon who hunts elves. With laser eyes.
Nikolice headed for the Northernmost room, where the real Avrik (you know, the guy Khemed's been impersonating) looked perturbed at the disturbance. Navine fled West, in fear of the elf-eating dragon. Khemed turned invisible. Another wight came out of the portal to the North. Nikolice threw a bunch of alchemist fire into the room with Avrik and the portal, which disrupted the spell Avrik was trying to cast. The fire quickly spread.
Azul got the dragon down to bloodied, but then the dragon turned invisible. Avrik defended himself with a Wall of Force spell. More wights poured in from the North hallway, burning from the alchemist's fire earlier. Nikolice threw some random flasks into the North hallway, collapsing the doorway. The DM began dropping many, many hits that this floor was becoming an unsafe place to be. We fled, the dungeon collapsing behind us.
As we ran, we found the corpse of the Dwarf King. He held a tiny chest, which Nikolice grabbed. It held a tiny silver hammer, which grew into a full sized hammer. As we reached the lower floor with the divine anvil, Nikolice struck it with the hammer, which revealed a brass heart. We took the heart-shaped object, which had several buttons on it.
We finally reached outside, and the dungeon collapsed behind us. Before we could catch our breath, however, an NPC apprentice stood laughing at us, transforming into something terrible. The dragon Chuth also decloaked. We ended on that cliffhanger.
